Inflammation in the patellar tendon is often due to irritation and/or micro-tearing of the collagen fibers. When the fibers tear, they become weaker, inflamed and swollen causing pain and tenderness in the area.

Firstly, a common overuse injury is Patellar tendinitis. This is caused by repeated stress on your patellar tendon. The stress and inflammation results in tiny tears in the tendon, which your body attempts to repair. The multiple tears in the tendon cause pain from inflammation and the weakened tendon.

In addition, Patella tendonitis (also known as Jumper’s Knee and Sinding-Larsen-Johansson disease) is a painful condition affecting the patellar tendon (also called the patellar ligament or anterior ligament) in the knee joint. Consistent with all forms of tendinitis, patellar tendinitis is a condition that can flare up and subside over a period of time.

Does tendonitis show up on MRI?

Certainly, overuse tendinopathy, typically is diagnosed by a physical exam alone. Subsequently, your doctor may order an ultrasound or MRI scans if you have the symptoms of overuse tendinopathy.  Importantly, this imaging will help determine tendon thickening, dislocations and tears.

What happens if tendonitis is not treated?

In the same vein, tendinitis can increase your risk of experiencing a tendon rupture without proper treatment. A tendon rupture is a much more serious condition that may require surgery. If tendon irritation persists for several weeks or months, a condition known as tendinosis may develop

After that, tendonosis is caused by chronic overuse of a tendon. Due to poor blood supply, Tendons require a long time to heal. Tendonosis is caused by continued and repetitive activity as it puts stress on the tendon and slows down the healing process.

Is walking okay with knee tendonitis?

Above all, ignoring your tendinitis knee pain may initially feel like the right thing to do, “play through the pain.” However, without rest your pain may begin to be present constantly instead of just when doing activity.

Moreover, Patellar Tendonitis pain is usually curable within 6 weeks with appropriate treatment and resting of the affected area.

Can tendonitis pain in the knee get worse?

In short, yes; Overtime the pain will get worse if left untreated. Patellar (knee) tendonitis is a sports injury. Over time, repeated movements (such as jumping) gradually weakens the patellar tendon in the knee. This knee injury may cause minor to severe pain and discomfort.
